Our Review of the Morgan Cycle Caboose trail-a-bike

The Morgan Cycle Caboose Trailer is a great means of preparing a young and inexperienced cyclist for life on two-wheels. Light, stable, and equipped with a very comfortable seat, the Caboose Trailer enables parents, caretakers, or an older sibling to bring a kid aged 5 or more along for a cycling trek of any distance. It offers all the benefits of a tandem bike, but allows the rear rider to sway with the turns instead of putting the weight of both riders on a single oversized bicycle frame.

Built on a lightweight and durable chassis, the Morgan Cycle Caboose trailer has two side-by-side rear wheels that maintain stability over any kind of terrain. (That doesn't mean you can take this on any expert trails, but it will do just fine on the open road or beginner trails.) The chain is completely enclosed to protect the rear rider's legs, and a wire-frame luggage rack serves as storage space for necessities on a long trip.  Kids may be pleased to note that the Morgan Cycle has a padded spring seat—just like granny's old cruiser.

The curved front bar of the Morgan Cycle Caboose trailer bike attaches to a specially designed hinge below the lead bike's seat. This trailer bike can be attached to nearly all 26" adult bikes. The Caboose Trailer is similar in appearance to the InStep Pathfinder, but Morgan Cycle's trail-a-bike has two rear wheels, so it can be used with even younger riders. The front bar of both the Morgan Cycle Caboose and the Pathfinder is curved to go over the rear wheel of the lead bike, and has a built in hinge that makes it easy to fold and store. This trailer is a great way of introducing a kid to the joys of cycling, just remember to Always Ride Safe and equip yourself and your rider with an approved safety helmet

Caboose trailer was disappointing

Reviewer: Mitch , Minnesota Date: May 03, 2007
There appears to be a quality control issue here. Ours arrived with the chain guard binding to the point that the pedals would not turn. IT was very hard to service given the way the guard was contructed. The company offered to take it back but after finally finding one of these and going through the hassle of assembling it - I chose not to return it. As I don't know of any other bike trailers like this-- If there are check them out first.

GREAT except for chain guard

This attachment bike is very stable and inexperienced rear riders will have no problem maintaining balance and feeling safe. I've had single wheel attachment bikes and they tend to be unstable and there is a lot of stress put on the hitch because the hitch has to help keep the rear bike upright as well as pull it along . The hitch on this Caboose only has to pull the rear bike as the two wheels of the Caboose keep this rear attachment bike upright. The only complaint I have about this bike is the totally enclosed chain guard. When I received the bike there, there was a rattle from the chain hitting the chain guard and I eventually had to remove the whole thing just to stop this rattle. Also, this chain guard is practically unremovable as I had to basically get tin snips and just cut it away. I don't have a chain guard at all right now but it rides fine and there is no more rattle!
